Start with the hood, because it's the weird part

Most cars have a hood, two front fenders and a bumper. The Huracán STO has one piece of carbon fiber that does all three jobs, and it tips forward as a single unit. Lamborghini calls it the cofango, a mash-up of cofano (hood) and parafango (fender), and says it was inspired by the Miura and the more recent Sesto Elemento. In racing it's a time-saver: one latch, and the mechanics can see the whole front end. On the street it mostly means the car looks like it's about to tell you a secret.

Waiting on your car repair? Here's the good news: you're reading about a hood that weighs less than your laptop bag's worst day.

What STO stands for

Super Trofeo Omologata. Translated loosely: the race car from Lamborghini's one-make Super Trofeo series, homologated so you can register it and drive it to dinner. Lamborghini presented it on 18 November 2020, and the press release doesn't hide where the parts came from. It draws on the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO race car and on the Huracán GT3 EVO, which Lamborghini says won the 24 Hours of Daytona three times in a row and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice.

That's the pitch. Not "inspired by racing," which every car ad says. Actually built out of the racing program.

The numbers, without the drama

The top speed is lower than a regular Huracán's on purpose. All that aero is pushing the car down into the road, and pushing down costs you something at the very top end. Nobody buying an STO is planning to find out on I-55 anyway. (Please don't.)

Why it turns heads

Stand next to one and count the strange parts. There's a roof scoop, a snorkel feeding air to the engine. There's a fin running down the engine cover that Lamborghini literally calls a shark fin; it's there to steady the car in corners and straighten the air onto the wing. The wing itself adjusts by hand, so you can trim it for a specific track like you'd set the seat in a rental. Lamborghini says carbon fiber makes up more than 75 percent of the exterior panels.

The front brakes are a newer carbon-ceramic setup Lamborghini calls CCM-R, with their own cooling ducts. When a car has dedicated plumbing just to cool the brakes, you understand it wasn't designed for the drive-thru.

The one Darin photographed

Darin took the photo on this card at Lamborghini Miami, standing in the showroom with an orange-and-blue STO filling the frame. That's not a stock image or a render. It's a person with a phone, a coffee and a strong feeling. Tap the photo and it goes to the actual listing: a 2023 Huracán STO at $521,697, as listed when we checked on 21 October 2026.

For perspective: an early Huracán on the same lot is listed around $246,697. So the STO costs about one whole extra Huracán. The difference is the race car. You're paying for the Daytona trophies, the shark fin, and a hood that comes off in one piece.

Who it's actually for

Here's a take Darin likes: the best way to enjoy a car like this might be the way you enjoy a jet ski on vacation. Show up, have the best afternoon of your year, hand the keys back, and let somebody else deal with the hose and the cover and the trailer. Owning an STO is a commitment. Daydreaming about one costs nothing and requires no garage.

And if you do own one, you probably have the heated garage with the epoxy floor and the fridge with nothing but sparkling water. That person exists. We've met that person. They are very happy and slightly tired.

The honest part

Upkeep cost: pending. We haven't found a number we'd stand behind, so the bar stays empty instead of guessed. Our own rating: pending. Price, power, speed and the race history above come from Lamborghini's press release and the Lamborghini Miami listing, both linked below.

Go see if that repair estimate has landed yet. Whatever it says, this page will still be here.
